An advanced humanoid robot built for expressive movement and embodied AI

Embodied interaction

Robert is designed to see, react, express, and communicate through movement and presence, and can embody LLM such as ChatGPT.

Unmodified LEGO® design

The robot is built entirely from unmodified and unglued LEGO® elements. This allows builders to use parts from their existing collection and source any missing pieces through marketplaces such as BrickLink or similar platforms. It is a more affordable and environmentally friendly approach that encourages reuse and recycling.

Real-world development

This is not just a concept. Robert is an actively developed physical project with evolving mechanics, software, motion control, and interaction systems.

Power without complexity

Ease of usage.

Robert is designed to be approachable without sacrificing capability. Advanced functionality should not require a complicated user experience. While the experience is intentionally designed for simplicity, the underlying architecture remains fully explorable for those curious to look deeper.

Intelligence without unrestricted authority

The AI can create a plan for Robert’s actions and speech, but it does not have unrestricted authority over what Robert is physically allowed to do.

Greater intelligence does not automatically grant greater authority.

Sponsorship

Helping independent ideas become real

To me, creation is a form of giving.

A truly creative mindset requires a certain fearlessness because it isn't primarily about obtaining something from others. It is about the act of bringing something meaningful into the world and sharing it.

For more than two years, I have developed Robert independently, investing my own time, work and resources while continuing my regular work to provide for my family.

I have five children, a grandson, and other people I love. An important reason I have persisted with this work is the possibility that something I create might one day improve their lives, while also contributing something useful to others.

If I had the financial means, one of my natural instincts would be to seek out independent and ambitious projects and support them, simply because I would want to see what they could become.

Perhaps there are others who feel the same way.

If you are an individual or organization who shares this philosophy, has the means, and would like to support the full-time development of Robert, sponsorship could significantly change the speed and scale at which I can complete the project, document it, and bring it into the hands of others.

Robert is one of three inventions I have developed independently over roughly the past decade. The other two have also reached advanced stages. Greater support would give me something extraordinarily valuable: more time to turn these years of work into finished things, while spending a little more of that time with my family.

If this is something you would like to discuss, I would be very happy to hear from you.
